Dallas County Counts holds Census Day News Conference “Time’s Up to Stand Up. Get Counted” Campaign Kicks Off

WHAT:
Dallas County Counts will hold a news conference to highlight “Time’s Up to Stand Up. Get Counted” activities during the last seven days before the Sept. 30 deadline to complete the 2020 U.S. Census.

WHO:
Commissioner Elba Garcia; George Tang, managing director of Educate Dallas at Communities Foundation of Texas; and Bryan Carter, senior pastor, Concord Church. Ed Turner, 2020 Census Coordinator from the City of Dallas, will also be present, joined virtually by several other representatives from Dallas County, the City of Dallas, surrounding cities and organizations who have participated in the Census campaign.

WHEN:
Wednesday, September 23, 2020, 8:30 a.m.

WHERE:
Dallas County Administration Building
Allen Clemson Courtroom
411 Elm Street, Dallas, TX

WHY:
Dallas County has reached a 62.8% rate of response, despite the interruption of Census outreach activities in early spring to curtail the spread of COVID-19. “Time’s Up to Stand Up. Get Counted” is a seven-day campaign beginning Wednesday, September 23rd to increase that rate to 100% before the September 30 deadline.

Groups will continue to canvass areas that have been traditionally hard to count to answer questions and correct misinformation that may keep residents from filling out the Census. There will be coordination with partners to set up Census Live events and kiosks at bazaars, churches and restaurants to provide information and Wifi access to fill out the Census. Phone banks and an enhanced social media campaign will carry the message that residents still have time to fill out the Census form. This will ensure that Dallas County gets the funds, resources and representation it deserves by having an accurate count in the decennial census.
