Swine flu ... the West Nile virus ... HIV ...
MRSA staph infections ...
You've told me the increasing number of threats
to your family's health concern you. They concern me, too. But
my career in dentistry has shown me it costs far less to provide
education upfront than to pay for neglected health issues tomorrow.
So, as your county commissioner, I will be
committed to continuing those county health programs that improve
the wellness of Dallas County residents ... and are fiscally
responsible.
I will especially champion the community clinics district-wide
that are helping all residents (but women, infants and children,
in particular) to live healthier lives. In an era when health
care costs continue to skyrocket, these clinics are true life-savers
to many of our county's more disadvantaged residents.
I also believe greater collaboration can greatly improve the health
of Dallas County residents.
For example, I will look for new ways that
wellness organizations countywide can tap into the strengths
of Parkland Hospital, a national leader in burn and trauma care.
At the same time, I will work with Parkland Hospital to help it
identify new ways it can deliver its services to residents more
quickly and efficiently.
I will also help the epidemiology departments
run by different municipalities around the county to share information
and processes so they can learn more from one another. That will
save lives and budget dollars.
